- The freight rate of European and American routes in the centralized transportation market has stabilized, but the freight rate of Southeast Asia routes is still declining. According to the Taiwan, China media, a large freight forwarder pointed out that the freight rate of 2019 before the Vietnam route reappeared this week, and the large container (40 foot container) and small container (20 foot container) only charged a symbolic freight of US $1.
There is pessimistic sentiment in the industry that due to the continued weakening of demand and the reduction of orders, as well as the early Lunar New Year this year, some factories may take early holidays when there are few orders; In addition, some Southeast Asian shipping companies have pointed out that combined with a shortage of labor at the port, these will affect the shipment volume, and it is estimated that it is difficult to see a small peak season for shipments before the Spring Festival.
A freight forwarder pointed out that although shipping companies only charge $1 in freight, in Taiwan alone, they charge NT $7000 per large container, NT $5600 per container for yard operations, as well as 1900 yuan for container handling and 200 yuan for document fees. In addition, there are surcharges at the port of destination, and it is estimated that shipping companies with low operating costs will not lose money. Previously, Chinese domestic trade routes diverted vessels to Vietnam and Thailand have not yet seen their withdrawal.
The freight rate of the Thai line also declined significantly. The original freight rate was $200 per box. Last week, the Shanghai Shipping Exchange announced that the freight rate was $143. This week, shipping companies in Taiwan, China market only charged $50, indicating that the problem of excess space is becoming increasingly obvious.
On December 31, last year, the Southeast Asian Container Freight Index (SEAFI) used to be as high as 8063.98 points. At that time, the freight rate for Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam was 1424 dollars per box, and that for Lin Cha Ban in Thailand was 1469 dollars. Currently, the SEAFI index has dropped to 804.60 points, a decline of 90.02%. The freight rate for Vietnam routes was 98 dollars per box, and that for Thai Airways was 115 dollars.
